NEWS FLASH: It’s NYC Fashion Week! Quite possibly the biggest/brightest event in all of the fashion world. Thursday kicked off the Fall 2011 shows in The Big Apple with the usual media flood of backstage shots [extra points for capturing a model eating], reports on who’s in the front row of what show and photos of smug looking editors who insist on wearing sunglasses indoors.
New York Fashion Week Is Here By STUART EMMRICH
Thursday marks the official start of Fashion Week, with more than 250 designers showing their fall 2011 collections at dozens of locations around the city, including Lincoln Center, now in its second season as home of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.
The Fashion and Style department of The New York Times will have wall-to-wall coverage of all the key Fashion Week events between now and Feb. 18, including:
• Daily runway, scene and party slide shows.
• Cathy Horyn’s On the Runway posts.
• Eric Wilson’s Fast Fashion reports.
• Guy Trebay’s Fashion Diaries.
• The Moment blog from T: The Times Style Magazine.
• Model-Morphosis interactives from T.
In addition, for constant updates during the shows, you can follow the Styles editors and writers on Twitter, including Cathy Horyn (@CathyHorynNYT), Eric Wilson (@EricWilsonNYT), Guy Trebay (@GuyTrebay), Simone S. Oliver (@SimoneSOliver), myself at @StuartEmmrichNYT, plus all of us and other staff members at @NYTimesfashion, and @themoment. Here is the New York Fashion Week show schedule.
All of this and more at: nytimes.com/fashionweek.
Shoo, is there anything else you need to know?! Luv the “constant updates” via Twatter from all the NYT peeps, hilar! What an age we live in. Am thisclose to joining the Twitterverse, just to witness such spectacles of real time “live” blogging. Equal parts funny, disgusting and intriguing.
Personally, I can think of nothing better to lift my Vitamin D-deficient mood than gazing at lovely garments. I’ve taken an Interwebz hiatus of sorts [collective gasp!] in an effort to focus more on my work life and feeling creatively stimulated. Both areas of my life have been draaaaaaging ass since the dawn of 2011. Lame! Enough! Bring on the duds!
BIG NEWS THIS WEEK: FLOTUS in H&M + yellow kitten heels= Department of le Hottness! Even ALT noticed! Like butt.on.
Ok, I do think it is a weeeee bit ridic how much FLOTUS is judged for her garment choices, but I also cannot help but get swept up in all of her beauty and elegance. Call me cray, but it is patriotically inspiring [not even kidding]. Fire up “Taps,” Imma salute the next USA flag I see!
Blogging Lady Soul Mate: Might I direct your next pose towards Anna Dello Russo’s blog. As the editor of Japanese Vogue, I’m not sure how Ms. ADR has time to keep up such a site, leading me to believe it is run by minions. Am jeally of minions. Want to be such a minion. Am also OBVI quite partial to her moniker and initials, wink. In addition to loving her posts, I also am so enamored with the images to the far right on her page- I’m sure there is a technical bloggette term for this area, but what-to-the-evs. Whimsy alert:
Sweet Tooth: Just discovered this site, Daily Candy. Have spent many minutes watching the charming and informative vids they post. One below is about using strawberries as a dye for clothing! So Portland.
The site can be tailored to your locale, if you live in one of their designated “hot spots” that is. Unforch, the Rose City is not on that list [lame] but Seattle is repping the PacNW and Chicago can stand in for my midwest homeland.
Expect a more Fashion Week-centric post later. Going to wait and do a wrap up, possibly whilst wearing a wrap dress. Can’t hurt. [paging DVF]
In football, the main event is only a few hours; in fashion it’s a whole MFin’ WEEK! Win.
Best: Ms. Tina Fey/Liz Lemon in L’Wren Scott
Worst: Ms. Michelle Williams in Valentino
Really, there were so many who belong in the “worst” category that I could fill a whole post devoted to them. The Oscars better bring it, as the GGs set the bar so low I’d be impressed with something one or two steps above this:
And that’s sayin somethin my dears! *shudder*
That’s all for tonight, am too distracted by FLOTUS in AMcQ at the China State Dinner. Mind blown, yet again and I don’t even like red! Michelle 2012.
Don’t let the Fashion Force tilt towards the dark side! Get yer beauty zzzz’s.
Greetings my loves, hello 2011. Hope you all had a fantastic NYE/NYD! I rung in the New Year dancing to a Lady G montage underneath a disco ball, champagne in hand… methinks a good sign for what is to come.
I am really enjoying the newish Kanye West album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Thanks, EJJ! I usually like Kanye’s “radio hits” as great workout/dance tunes, but I don’t really listen to him that often. This video is simple and I love the dancers in their black ensembles. Graceful ballerinas and calm piano notes give the video a softness which is unexpected from Mistah West. Hopes ya likes!
I’ve been contemplating an epic “BEST OF 2010” post where I wrap up the year in style in my own words. However, imma let these two peeps from NYT do it for me because 1) honestly, I’ve had the blues this week and do not feel like devoting that much time to it right now and 2) they do a great job… which is why they write for the NYT and I… no time for comparisons, it is a new year GD it! Focus on the positive.
Some overlap there, clearly the suicide of A. McQ should be on all end of year lists, but a few unique points brought by both [bravo for Wilson’s nod to Jeggings!].
My personal style hero of the year should be no surprise:
I don’t always agree with Rihanna’s choices, however I applaud her consistently fearless approach to fashion and her willingness to change it up often.
Right there with RiRi is FLOTUS:
The woman DOES NOT miss. Always looks polished, current, hott. The picture of class. Get chu some, Barry!
The casual styles this past year made me very happy (boots, skinnies, scarves) and I hope to see such a trend continue:
So there ya have it, in brief. Keep it stylin, because looking drab is sooooo last year!
CLAPTON IS GOD. And apparently always prepared, please note the spare cig tucked between guitar strings. Not usually a Phil Collins fan (thank you, sister), but I can tolerate if he’s getting it done on the drums for EC as he is here. Let it Rain is an upbeat love tune, but meant quite literally for my Rose City Pose-rs this week. Natch!
My writing is at a bit of a crossroads (keeping with the Clapton theme). The Neat Sheet has all but vanished from the interwebz world, leaving me confused and worried. My emails have gone unanswered and yes, I did check to see if it was just a pass-agress way of telling me to bugger off. Hmmm…. needless to say, January goal #1 will be finding another outlet. I was just starting to feel in the groove with it all and felt so lucky to meet the ladies I was able to interview. Who knows, maybe it will liven up again in 2011?
Personally, I am rollin and tumblin (Clapton) along, heading home to the Midwest in exactly a week. Looking forward to family time and wintery weather. It is always a bit stressful, making time to say hello to old friends (Clapton) but also ensuring that the majority of my visit is spent hanging with the family. Still debating whether to take my computer with me… mostly because I doubt PoseCity parentals know their wireless password, but also because I think it will be nice to take a few days off. I’ll keep my faithful updated! PoseCity >>> CircleCity?
Yesterday I saw Black Swan with two lovely lady friends. I have had mega ladywood for this movie for several reasons and could not wait to see if it lived up to my expectations. OMG… INTENSE. My stomach was clenched the whole time. I cannot give too much away, but I will say that the costumes were incredible, the lezzy scene was brief, and I still have a lot of questions. I didn’t loooooove it but it was definitely worth my time and $8 motherfin .50.
In fashion news, I just stumbled upon this gem about the Sartorialist. Please be sure to watch the video, it is super short and narrated by the Sartorialist himself, Scott Schuman. I am a huge fan of his blog and the fact that he is from Indiana [We Hoosiers have to stick together, as per Vonnegut]! I find it interesting that he primarily considers the photographic composition over the fashion statement, as most people would categorize his blog as a study in street style. Follow me:

Also from my NYT buds, a great homage to lace as the detail of late. YAY!!!! So sexy, so revealing, yet subdued. Le sigh…so great, I can’t stand it (ok, last one)!!!
And finally, I know you are wondering who I think looked good or bad out and about over the weekend. Let the wait end:
I know nada about Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden except that SHE’S A BABE! What a dress. Royal garb has always been whimsically appealing to me and seeing these photos only serves as reinforcement.
Was this Kate Bosworth’s home-ec project gone wrong?! WTH??
Big surprise, FLOTUS looked amazingly festive for the “Christmas in Washington” concert. She does not miss.
Ok Pose-ys, stay fresh this week. Nobody knows you when you’re down and out (LAST ONE FOR REAL THIS TIME) and lookin a mess!
