Great tune, enjoy!
Now, on to the happs:
Big PoseCity congrats to Ms. Nina Garcia, PR judge extraordinaire on the arrival of her babe over the weekend [please note, announced via Twatter]. I am not one to applaud procreation, but Nina seems like such a lovely example of a working mom having kiddos later in life while still maintaining a successful career. Bravo (meant as an accolade, not a reference to her former TV network, WINK)!
Egads! Who doesn’t want to view Tim Gunn’s favorite fashion photos?! Nina’s colleague shares with us, his adoring public, some of the pictures that make him swoon. Great picks and commentary, TG! Check out more wonderful slideshows from the LIFE mag peeps here.
I do not recall where I found this video featuring artist David Hockney, but I have been following the press he has gotten for his ipad drawings ever since the new fangled contraption was released. Mr. Hockney is one of my favorites, and as somewhat of a ‘techtard’ myself (thanks for the term, SB), I salute his embrace of new media. Who says you cannot create an exhibition full of mounted ipads featuring finger drawings?!
You go girl!
SOMEHOW, I happened to miss this gem from my pals at Refinery29. HILAR! Mucho thanks to the one who brought this to my attention. Am waiting for the release of the PoseCity handbag, an homage to my musings by Mr. Marc J [breath not being held].
O to the MG… must venture out doors. Am becoming one with my couch and honey, bed sores are never in style. Hope your holiday shopping has commenced and been successful. I cannot seem to shop for anyone other than myself. This must change..
t-minus 3 weeks until home!
Much love,

Happy Thanksgiving 2010.

SO much to be thankful for today: for crisp air and clear skies, for those who work so others can rest, for friends who pour coffee followed by champagne, for ways to communicate with far away family. For the internet and my computer. For words and language. For clothes and accessories [had to].
And if you take the time to read this or any of my writing, I am extremely grateful.
Much love and thanks, Pose-rs. Now, on to that third piece of pie…

Most often, it’s the music playing whilst I write, or just a song that I’ve had on repeat. Hope it makes yer ears happy frappy.
In blog-related news, I want to make my site better, more organized, easier to navigate. I want more people to read. I want specific content to be housed in one place. Desired improvements are possible, I just do not know WordPress well enough to make them happen at this moment. Seeking help. Results pending..
Once again, it is nast outside today! Must be winter in the Rose City. In such instances, putting ‘Calm Radio’ on itunes and reading on the couch about my heroine, Louisa May Alcott, for hours seems inevitable [and also like I am age 78+]. Have combatted potential all day hermitage with the following images of goodness. Enjoy, kittens!
From V Magazine’s “Who Cares About Age?” issue. Um, not me if this is what awaits over the hill.
When I purchased Loud from itunes, it included a “digital booklet,” the contents of which I just discovered today. It is super great to have the album artwork, but it also seems like another sign that compact discs are near demise, no? I did catch a vid of my love’s AMA performance last night…*grumbles of discontent/confusion*… but since we are focusing on the positive in this post, I must not comment [burn!].
Is this for real?! A report, per NYT, that new Celine accessories will be wrapped up like candy when purchased. Talk about sweet packaging! As if buying something from Celine wouldn’t already send my insulin levels through the roof.
Hope all them photos made yer insides all warm and sunny. In keeping with my ‘Money Is Not Real’ life motto [see also: 'The Bigger The Hair The Closer To God' & 'Fake It Till You Make It'], I plan on visiting the ohsocharming Palace today- 15% off on Mondays, I mean, how can I resist?! This after dropping a ridic amount of $$$ at Folly yesterday on an amazing, super warm sweater with pockets. It is essentially a blanket that can be worn in public. Love button! Special thanks x 10 to Sarah for the VIP treatment. Misooo lucky.

On a big Outkast kick right now, hope ya can dig on it, too.
Speaking of, talk about major boner-kill: you pick up a CD [Aquemini] from the hold shelf at the library, one that you’ve no doubt been waiting patiently for, then getting home and realize it is a “CLEAN” version. Um, what?! I wasn’t aware those were still made. Ugg…gross! Seems so wrong to censor like that. Reminds me of when Wal-Mart would not carry Nirvana’s In Utero unless “Rape Me” was edited. Damn! “Gee, whiz!!!”
Oh mah lordy, so much going on and, per us, I feel so behind. I must resign myself to the fact that I will most likely never feel completely caught up and aware of all that is happening in the style/entertainment world. I am so sorry to break this news to my faithful….must counteract all negative energy with FASHION! GO!
GOOD SHIZ:
Tiny bun in teeny oven: RZ confirms preggo rumors, obvi relying on Twatter to spread the joyous news. Bet that womb is littered with venti Starfucks cups and bug-eye sunglasses.
You’re too kind: Check out these tricked out friendship bracelets from Frieda and Nellie. Badass! And yes, I will accept multiple versions as holiday presents. You can finally scratch “Favorite Fashion Blogger” off your gift list. YER WELCOME.
Kate Moss gets big honor from Vogue: ‘Best Dressed Woman o’ the Decade’ does have a nicer ring than ‘Cocaine Kate.’ I cannot argue with this accolade. Miss Moss is fabu, even in wellies and bum-exposing hot pants!
CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards: They happened. On Monday. These people looked good. I want to go.
This arrived:
Thank you, Betsey Facebook and free overnight shipping! xo
More Miss Berry goodness:
Gah! Perfection yet again.
And this was actually worn. In public:
Had to end on a laugh. Just makes me sleep better.
Until next post, ponder this… if a major life announcement is made and no one Tweets it, has it really happened?!

Posted: 11/15/2010 Filed under: Jams, Musings | Tags: Betsy & Iya, Nada Surf, Radish Underground, Tender Loving Empire, The Neat Sheet Leave a comment »Hello my dears! Sigh… a heavy heart befalls me on the eve of my work week. The last hour or two have been the only times where it seems like I have stopped moving the whole weekend and I am left with my thoughts….which happen to be all over the place at the moment. This Nada Surf song sounds the way I feel. It’s probs not helpful to use one sense to describe another, but hopefully you understand. And if not, go read Perez Hilton cuz you dumb!
Sassy tonight! Sheesh! But onward I write, as even amid all the weird teenage emo in my head right now, there is much good news to report from PoseCity. After a two year hiatus [and roughly two thousand cups of coffee], my teeth are clean and sparkly post-dentist visit. I scored a fedora-style hat from Urban for only $4.99. I caught up with a great friend over a bottle of vino, which incidentally cost less than my hat. I might have pre-orderd the new Rihanna album [YES!]. And in the best news of the weekend, I had another surreal experience on assignment for The Neat Sheet yesterday.
My Neat People (or Neat Peeps as I like to call it) feature this time profiles jewelry designer Ms. Betsy Cross, the brains and brawn behind the betsy & iya [bet-see & eye-uh] accessories line. I’d unknowingly seen Betsy’s work all over town, specifically at two of my favorite local shops, Radish Underground and Tender Loving Empire. I had the privilege of interviewing her in betsy & iya’s newly expanded showroom and studio in NW Portland. The grand opening of the space is this coming Friday, thus the reason for my piece.
In conducting my research on Sunday morning, I knew that Betsy and I would hit it off. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading her blog and her website, whether due to the beauty of her colorful creations or the way reading her words made me feel like she was in the room with me [mega compliment!]. You’ll have to wait for the full interview…..oh the suspense!……but my Pose-y VIPs deserve some sort of sneak preview. I cannot wait to attend the party on Friday and get my mf-ing SHOP ON.
I really hope to keep in touch with Betsy. Her and her husband Will had such a positive energy and I was so flattered at how they treated lil ol’ me [and kept my coffee mug full to the brim! wee!]. They were so enthusiastic about the interview and Betsy was very responsive to all my questions. Their relationship is one of true collaboration and is what I aspire to have in a mate someday. Please check out her blog, it is so charming and well-written. If I was the recommending type, [which BTW I am] I also suggest keeping up with betsy & iya on almighty Facespace. Points for spotting the status update mentioning an interview [which was done BY ME!!!!!!].
The draft is off to the magician, hope it goes up by Thursday. Stay tuned!
Betsy’s designs are inspired by the collision of opposite ideas into one beautiful object. The joining of old and new, vintage and DIY, in an effort to create uniqueness and showcase personality. So much of life is found in the crux of opposing forces. Finding the middle ground, the uniting aspects is where all that beauty and personality becomes unearthed.
Allow yourself space to sit with the thoughts that get lost in the shuffle. It can be uneasy to suddenly be alone and forced to deal with decisions or actions that are tinged with regret. Combine all that scary stuff with all the good news in yer lives and that’s what it’s all about. That’s where I find myself, at least. See you there?
Until next time…imma let you finish, but PoseCity has the foxiest readers around. BAM.
Cheers,

Wise words that are ringing true for me this week. I feel my fire is dim and my color muted over the past few days. Just a little zapped, that’s all. Work= in front of a screen, static, tied to a desk, a phone, a keyboard… but not able to use any of those resources for joyous tasks, but rather ones that make me feel like a drone. I went to a fancy party last night with lots of pretty people. I had on flowery suspenders. I drank free wine that made my belly warm and my cheeks flush. I indulged in a Swishy Sweet or two [vice alert]. I scribbled in my journal romantically, something about only wanting to look at beautiful things, to surround myself with that which gives me sensory pleasure, like stepping into a world crafted in manner of the jewelry shelf in my apartment [the happiest spot I know]. Tipsy musings, funny in hindsight.
I do feel behind in my interwebz reading, but I will share a few things from my week thus far.
This song is on repeat in #5. I like it a lot, but the vid is lacking. It’s all down hill after the dude/shadow lady make-out session. LAME. I know nothing about this band? performer? person? but I suspect it is somewhat of the hipster variety. Yeah yeah, judge away.
But don’t Be a Tactless Bitch! Funny. And backhanded compliments are for the spineless! [see also: quite effective].

Ug, ick, ack, this spectacle is making me sound like ‘Cathy’! Yikes x 10. But let’s be real, no one expects these people to bring it, and I do not want to be mean anymore (tonight). So moving on..
In other news: Halle Berry is not human.

What is she, like 22? No.. past 40? GD!! Bravo for looking sexy but not like you’re trying to be Miley’s bestie.
Ah, deep sigh… the fire is gaining gusto and the color is slowly seeping in… I feel better already. Thanks for coming along, Pose-rs! Also, special thanks to people.com for apparently sponsoring this post, me love you long time!

What an amazing undertaking it must have been to capture the last 100 years in fashion history from a single source. The transition from the first page of the publication to the commemorative issue (both seen below) is astounding when one considers how much has changed in the way the public receives information. The NYT interview with executive editor Bridget Foley addresses this technological shift and more.

Bravo, WWD! Hope to snap up a hard copy of this in the next few days. Some purchases can be rendered necessary on a “historical basis.” [Note: Said justification will someday be used when purchasing any of the following items: quilted Chanel bag, Cartier Love bracelet, a pair of Louboutins].

Posted: 11/06/2010 Filed under: Jams, Videos | Tags: Courtney Love, Only Girl in the World video, Rihanna Leave a comment »Obvi, I love me some Ri Ri (hello, have you been reading lately or what?!). The music vid for her latest single makes me so happy. I know it is a bit over the top…how many shots of her, arms wide, belting from a rock/tulip field/fireworks-speckled sky can there be?!…but a visual delight nonetheless. The haziness of the lighting makes the edges of objects blurry and the shots seem to radiate warmth. Only Rihanna can bring technicolor balloons to the desert and make a giant pink flower stand inexplicably alone in a field, all while twirling about daintily and making the whole spectacle look normal/effortless.
OH, and can we discuss the outfits?! DAY-UM. Even though this little number does not show nearly as much skin when compared to some of her other videos and performances, it is still quite sexy. I especially love the white bustier top and the sparkly headband. And her hair. Makes me want to go red tomorrow. Just might. Stay tuned. WINK.
Now that we’ve indulged our sweet tooth with some candy coated Ri Ri, on to more… well…..on to C. Love.
A woman who needs no intro (see how I struggled with that transition up there?!), this NYT profile seeks to portray CL not as the Queen of Cray Cray we all know and love, but as a fashionista, calling attention to her style prowess and industry connections. I really don’t care what incarnation of Courtney is in the news these days, just as long as she stays around. She’s entertainment at it’s kookiest. Showing up for an interview late, naked and “slightly drunk”….I mean, would you expect anything less from her? LIKE!
In other news, time to ‘Fall Back’ this evening. I am not looking forward to it being dark when I get off work, but I am looking forward to an extra hour of sleep tonight. Time seems so arbitrary whenever these switches come around!
I am also looking forward to apartment sitting this weekend. I’m telling myself it is a stay-cation: the buzz word from a few summers ago when, at the height of the recession, families could not afford to take trips too far from home, so they learned to visit unexplored attractions in their own towns. Then, of course I am scolding myself for using the word ‘stay-cation’ where someone else might read and know that I used it. I’m from the ‘burbs, leave me alone!
Goodnight sweet peas. Make yer clocks turn back, make yer Pose-s fashion forward.
Cheers!

Posted: 11/02/2010 Filed under: Musings | Tags: Balmain, Lanvin for H&M, Marie Antoinette, Opening Ceremony, Rihanna Leave a comment »Happy Birthday to one of my fashion idols, Marie Antoinette!
Mucho thanks to my Facespace friends at Opening Ceremony for pointing this out to me. I have been meaning to start a tab or series of posts profiling my style influences. Ms. MA would be near the top, or at least the top of the “Historical Figures” sub-category that I would no doubt create. The epitome of decadence, the teen queen seemed endearing in her opulence because she truly did not know any better. I fell in lust with her after the Sofia Coppola biopic came out in 2006 (a film that I have to blame for my successful, albeit brief, experiment with pink highlights) and led me to read her biography by Antonia Fraser. She is pastels and petticoats, gold trim and luxe lace, powdered face and perfumed neck. All dripping with champagne, mind you. Hero.
A few more items of note from the interwebz, all via HuffPost Style (besties):
What.The.Hell. Another one of my aforementioned would-be style icons proves that we’re all human and make mistakes. I still love you, Sienna. Just go naked if you’re going to dress like this. (hmmm… uh, yes, back to blogging….. WINK)
Because Balmain RULES duh!!! I don’t really support the styling of any of those covers, however I think Natalia probs “wears it best” in this case. Reminds me very much of this cover gem:
[cannot ever resist a photo of Ri Ri, especially in Balmain... swooooon!]
And finally, a video-mmercial [word?] for H&M’s much anticipated collab with Lanvin. OMG.. this is so dreamy and clever. I think Blondie McFrizzy hair and I were separated at birth: I want Lanvin, not flowers/diamonds/weird sunglasses wearing dudes! Love match! As I’ve said before, I want to party with Alber Elbaz. What a guy.
Until next Pose, stay golden my pets!
